Cryopreservation of Zebrafish embryos

Cryogenetics AS is now developing a cryopreservation protocol for Zebrafish embryos. The company aims to have a product ready for the market during 2014.

Zebrafish is one of the most used model organisms in biotechnological and medical research, and a number of laboratories worldwide have a Zebrafish facility with several thousand fish. Cryogenetics AS is now developing a cryopreservation protocol for Zebrafish embryos. The company aims to have a product ready for the market during 2014.

Cryopreservation of Zebrafish embryos will be a product with several advantages:

  • Back up of all your valuable lines in case of disaster
  • Conserves genetic material, both female and male
  • Access to preferred lines when needed
  • Saves facility space by reducing aquarium numbers
  • Saves costs, due to reduced needs for fish maintenance

To acquire more information about how such a product/service will suit the customers, Cryogenetics AS is now contacting more than 700 Zebrafish laboratories worldwide to get their opinion.

In addition to Zebrafish, Cryogenetics AS is also running a project to develop cryopreservation protocols for embryos from Atlantic salmon and Atlantic cod.
